Songs For Sabotage - "Drifting"

Jess Dye of High Waisted first exposed me to the fierce sounds of Songs For Sabotage, the new project of New York City musicians Richie Rose and Lina Sophie. During our interview on the April 18th episode of Local Fidelity, we played the duo’s first single, “Fire,” and I was immediately enamored with the song’s electric rhythm and shadowy melody.  Since the release of “Fire,” the band dropped a similarly infectious tune, “Metal,” back in February, and today, they’re sharing their third single, “Drifting,” and its accompanying video.

The video, which primarily centers on Rose and Sophie driving around, was shot entirely on iPhone cameras during brief escapes from quarantine. From the view of their car dashboard, you can see them drifting aimlessly, looking for a brief reprieve from the inside, but not quite sure where they’re headed. The lyrics pair perfectly with the video, as it addresses overcoming feelings of self-doubt and uncertainty. Sophie described the inspiration as capturing “a feeling of aimless wandering “like when you’re afraid to take a risk or make a move in your personal life, so you just wait for something to happen, but then you just end up alone and drifting.” The music continues the duo’s trend of infectious, beat-driven tracks that’ll encourage you to get up and move around.

“Drifting” will appear on Songs for Saboatge’s upcoming debut album, Night of Joy. The band also shared a remix of the song by UK house producer Joe Sheriff.  Watch the video below and purchase the track on Bandcamp. All proceeds from today’s purchases will benefit the US Artist Relief Fund.
