Patrick Nitti - "Closer"
Patrick Nitti is a relatively new bedroom pop artist from the Queens neighborhood of Forest Hills, which is best known as the home of punk luminaries, The Ramones. While his music carries just a smidge of punk swagger through his obscured, chilly vocal delivery, the young songwriter thrives more so on the cloudy guitar haze of dream pop and the dark rhythms of post-punk. His most recent single, “Closer,” is a somber affair, pairing a thudding electronic beat with guitars that ring out into it’s pitch-black atmosphere. The track definitely has hints of goth in it, too, be it the haunting synths or the stark lyrics, which describe an ache for human connection, a theme explored in many synth-wave classics of the 1980s. Nitti also puts his nimble guitar work on display at various points throughout the song’s duration, but his playing particularly shines during the outro, which gets some added sonic girth thanks to a whole lotta reverb.
