Cameron Castan - "Bright"
Cameron Castan is the spirited and charismatic frontman of New York/New Jersey goth-punk outfit Whiner, and today, he’s sharing his long-awaited first-ever solo single, “Bright.” The song will appear on his debut full-length, Show Me, which is set for release later this year.
Castan has proven himself to be an immensely talented vocalist with Whiner, but unlike the big guitar and synths sounds heard across that band’s catalog, his range and precise diction are front and center on “Bright.” The cyclical synths and backing beat set a foundation, acting more like a support system for his voice and lyrical message to flourish. His words embody potent feelings of detachment and separation brought on by a yearning to be alone and “just vibe… and embracing the darker parts of myself and others.” In a recent conversation, Castan shared that “Bright” was born “out of that feeling where you want to shut yourself out from everything that’s bothering you. It’s a metaphorical closing of the blinds to cut out the light, which represents the things that are hurting you.”
The release of “Bright” is also accompanied by a video directed/produced by Luke Carr, which captures Castan in and around places of special meaning to him. In addition to shots of Castan in front of open fields, near New Jersey train tracks, and having dinner with his family, the video also includes a few clips of his recent performance at Journal Square Lounge in Jersey City, New Jersey.
