Tom’s favorite songs released on SST Records

Featuring songs from Black Flag, Minutemen, Das Damen, Dinosaur Jr., and more

Back in 2014, I put together a playlist of my favorite songs released on the storied independent record label, SST Records. In the 1980s, the label helped to spearhead the nationwide network of underground bands that formed the pre-Nirvana indie-rock scene releasing incredible records from Los Angeles based bands like Black Flag and the Minutemen. The label presided over the shift from the hardcore punk that then dominated the American underground scene to the more diverse styles of alternative rock that were emerging. SST initially focused on releasing material by hardcore punk groups from Southern California, but soon expanded by the mid-1980s, releasing records by Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and more. I spruced up the playlist a bit recently and added a few additional tracks. The playlist features songs from Black Flag, Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr., Das Damen, and more!
