Surfliner - "Fireside"
We’re excited to premiere Fireside, the new EP from New York City surf rockers Surfliner. The four-song collection arrives on the heels of the first snowstorm of the season here in the northeast, and its mellow sounds will have you daydreaming about some slightly warmer summer days. It definitely helps that the first track, “I Think Of You,” revels in blissful nostalgia, as in great detail, the lyrics pine for a lost love. The middle two songs, “Danny Webster” and “Bright As Day,” keep the laid back vibe going, mixing in nylon guitars and low humming bass lines that create a cozy atmosphere, but the EP’s final track, “Surfliner,” takes the cake. On this number, the lyrics work in even more yearning, while also mixing in the kind of soul-burning desire that’ll definitely warm you up during this bitter cold spell.
The band shared the following about the EP via e-mail:
Fireside is just the three of us, John, Sam, and I, playing a few tunes together during sunset on a brisk December night. This project is really meant to show these songs in a different context, to slow down the pace and create a thoughtful, almost melancholy ambiance for the folks at home. We're in for a cold, dark winter, and Fireside is meant to be a little flickering ember of warmth for folks to cozy up with. The three of us have a lot of love and appreciation for each other, and there are so many warm memories packed into these tunes, so getting to sit down to record these is really healing and nostalgic for us. We decided to include a cover of "I Think Of You" by Rodriguez because that song lives in between the lines of emotions in a way that just perfectly captures that tinge of heartbreak we're all carrying around these days.
Fireside is out tomorrow via North By South Records, but you can stream here first! Check out the rest of the band’s catalog on your streaming platform of choice. Keep up with them by following them on Instagram and liking them on Facebook.
