Sean Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band - "Sadhu"
We’re excited to premiere “Sadhu,” the brand new single from Seán Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band. The song is the latest from this dynamic New Orleans trio, who’ve garnered critical acclaim for their spiritual blend of eastern and western sonic flavors, including gospel, roots, rock, and world music. “Sadhu” once again showcases the group’s eclectic intersectionality, mixing mantras and chanting with guitars that sound and feel inspired by 60s psychedelia. The track’s funk-fueled rhythmic undercurrent carries frontman and band founder Seán Johnson’s chanting Shiva mantras, which he described as being directly inspired by the “grit and intensity of the guitar parts” written by his bandmate Alvin Young. Johnson shared that “Shiva mantras support seeing through illusion and embracing change and transformation.”
Johnson also shared a bit about how the song came together:
We dug in deep on ‘Sadhu,’ a boisterous song that merges powerful ancient mantras of transformation with fierce guitar, bass, hand and kit drums, and ecstatic singing to drive an inspiring and liberating message to get out of our heads and live in this moment.”
In conjunction with the song’s release, the band also shared a visualizer for the track, which you can stream below!
“Sadhu” will appear on the band’s forthcoming album Mystery, a rootsy devotional album that explores themes of doubt, sparks of faith, and evokes a sense of fierce trust in the fertility of what cannot be seen or explained. You can stream “Sadhu” on your platform of choice, including Spotify. Keep up with the band by following them on Instagram and liking them on Facebook.
