PONS - “LEAVE ME TO MY WORK”

PONS - “LEAVE ME TO MY WORK”

PONS are quickly becoming a must-see live band. The Brooklyn trio brings heaps of energy and an unmatched intensity to the stage, especially with their larger-than-typical percussion section. As a trio, Sam Cameron handles lead vocals and guitar, while Jack Parker sits behind the kit, but auxiliary percussionist Sebastien Carnot is the band’s secret weapon. The extra layer of rhythm he provides gives their sound an especially forceful and seismic character, allowing the band to barrel through songs with reckless abandon.

For their latest single, “LEAVE ME TO MY WORK,” the trio manages to bottle up the energy and character of their live show into the song’s three-minute and 50-second runtime. It bristles with tenacity, starting off with taut guitars and a staccato beat, but eventually descends into a cacophonic, all-out aural assault. Not surprisingly, the track draws a lot of its strength from its muscular percussion, and similar to several of their recent singles, the band enlisted the talents of saxophonist Thaya Zalewski. Her contributions definitely add a certain wonderful, James Chance-like delirium.
