Diamond Day - "Fiction Feel"
Gen Z is definitely in tune with the musical stylings of Gen X. Whether it’s the earwormy guitar-based alternative rock of the Pacific Northwest or the ethereal sounds of British dream pop and shoegaze, today’s music-inclined twenty-somethings are well acquainted with the pillars of their parent’s record collections. Some, like Montreal’s Diamond Day, take a bit of influence from several different corners. Their unique formula shines on their second-ever single, “Fiction Feel,” which we’re excited to premiere today.
Diamond Day’s music succeeds in creating otherworldly soundscapes. “Fiction Feel” possesses that kind of transportive, swirling instrumentation that sounds and feels lighter than air. But their pop instincts are also quite strong, as evidenced by the soaring and clear vocal melodies on “Fiction Feel.” Front person Beatrix Méthé’s voice sits atop a menagerie of sonic delights with shuffling organ drums, patchwork tape loops, and sparkling guitars all playing a prominent role. There are hooks galore, too, which particularly strike a chord in the memorable chorus.
In conjunction with the track, the duo is also sharing a cool visualizer. Méthé shared the following on how the video captures the song’s spirit:
The song is a little nerdy and bipolar and Natan did a great job of capturing that in the visualizer. He got teenagers from the school to play with the camera, cycling through different emotions and expressions as the song develops. And it’s all in black & white to contrast those dynamics.
You can watch the visualizer below!
“Fiction Feel” is the second single from the band’s forthcoming debut full length, Connect The Dots. The song is available to stream on all platforms. Keep up with Diamond Day by following them on Instagram.
