FIME - "Born 2 Love"
Los Angeles based quartet Fime’s latest single, “Born 2 Love,” is a sweet, serotonin fueled ode to summer lovin’, particularly, those fleeting moments of infatuation that can only happen in the sweltering heat of July or August. Whether it’s whirlwind, buzzy nights spent in the city or slowly walking hand in hand on the sidewalk with the object of your affection, Fime perfectly captures those punch-drunk, lighter than air feelings of being young and in love. Engineered by Melanie Duterte (Jay Som), the band creates a wall of guitar haze that intermingles with the track’s sugary-sounding and well-layered vocals in a way that mimics the dreamlike trance that love can inflict. The swelling and woozy soundscape really serves to make their words all the more powerful, as the combination allows the listener to visualize those settings and experience those feelings that they sing about, be it the “scraped knees” and “China town, hot summer nights” that they reference in the second verse, the cherished, meaningful slow stroll in the final verse, or the deeply reverberated refrain of “born to love” that rings out into the ether at the track’s conclusion. In listening to “Born 2 Lose,” it’s hard not to get a bit nostalgic for those old warm weather flings and the associated feelings of youth. We have Fime’s vivid songwriting to thank for that.
