FLTY BRGR GRL - "Sweet Boy"

I first stumbled upon FLTY BRGR GRL after wandering around Instagram during the early days of the pandemic. They’ve since kept my interest with their swooning, bubblegummy garage rock songs that are all about love, both the good parts and the more challenging aspects. Prior releases like “Slow Dance” expounded on girl crushes, while “No More” tackled the harsh reality of coming to terms with the fact that your significant other may not be good for your well-being. Their first single of 2021, “Sweet Boy,” dropped last week and it continues their exploration of unrequited love.

“Sweet Boy” is just that: sweet. Against a sonic backdrop of slightly fuzzy guitars and a steady drumbeat, the Norwegian duo sweetly harmonize about crushing on someone who just doesn’t feel the same way, and the lengths that you’ll sometimes go to in order to convince yourself otherwise. In a recent Instagram reel, the band shared that the song is about “loving someone who doesn’t love you back, but being in total denial about it.” It’s more of what we love from FLTY BRGR GRL, so we can’t wait to hear the rest of their new record.
