Wifey - “DiMaggio”
Nearly a century after Joe DiMaggio played his first major league game, he remains a cultural icon. In addition to his numerous achievements on the baseball diamond, which included three American League MVPs, 10 World Series titles, and a seemingly unbreakable 56-game hitting streak, the dude was married to freakin’ Marilyn Monroe. He’s synonymous with greatness. So, unsurprisingly, people are still writing songs about him. Brooklyn’s Wifey just released a great one with The Yankee Clipper’s surname as the title. “DiMaggio” channels his greatness in their search for power pop perfection.
With undeniably catchy guitar hooks and a relentless energy, Wifey knocks it out of the park on “DiMaggio.” The uptempo and jaunty tune features a couple of big guitar solos, which are sandwiched by an uproarious chorus. Frontman Teddy Grey vocals bristle with unbridled enthusiasm and emotion, concluding with a vote of self-confidence, “I’m still the next DiMaggio.”
