Guided By Voices - “I Am A Scientist”

Guided By Voices - “I Am A Scientist”

Have you ever wondered what some of Guided By Voices’ classic songs would sound like in high fidelity? Personally, I haven’t. I’ve always appreciated the recording quirks of the band’s classic records. Whether it’s the buzzing in the background on “A Salty Salute,” the tape hiss on “Her Psychology Today,” or any other number of recording “imperfections,” the rougher qualities gave those songs character.

With that said, Guided By Voices recently celebrated their 40th year as a band, and it seems like frontman Robert Pollard is reflecting a bit on their back catalog. The band recently re-recorded two bonafide GBV classics, “I Am A Scientist” and “Tractor Rape Train,” in slick high fidelity. The results are pretty damn good.

The “I Am A Scientist” b/w “Tractor Rape Chain” single is out 8/28. Pre-order it here. Keep up with Guided By Voices by following them on Instagram. They’re hitting the road later this month in support of their excellent 40th full-length, Strut of Kings.
