Ilithios and Logout - "Sirens"
We’re excited to premiere “Sirens,” a collaborative track and video between Brooklyn’s Ilithios and Amsterdam-based artist Logout. While the internet and social media are rightly under intense scrutiny for all of their negative baggage, it’s sometimes easy to forget that great musical connections are forged over the World Wide Web between artists from different parts of the world. That’s precisely how Manny Nomikos (who performs as Ilithios) and Logout crossed paths creatively, as after Nomikos put out a solicitation for collaborators on Facebook, Logout eagerly responded. Soon, Nomikos shared the early stems for “Sirens” and Logout went to work adding vocals and arranging the tracks.
The end result is a gorgeous, soothing song that steadily unfurls. Driven by a throbbing bassline and a pitter-patter beat, the softly arranged synths, and Logout’s calming vocal delivery, really give the song a relaxing mood that matches the pace of the accompanying video. The unique video trots around the globe, piecing together shots of various different places while the lyrics to the song scroll horizontally across the screen. With settings that range from Greece to California, the video juxtaposes some gorgeous scenery with snippets of everyday life. Nomikos shared a bit about the inspiration behind the concept:
The video has a sorta endless doomscrolling effect to it, where the most we get is ten seconds with a moment. Obviously, we live in a world where catching or maintaining someone’s attention has become commodified and quite difficult, but we didn't want to make a video that’s calling attention to or throwing judgment regarding that fact. The images just give us glimpses into the worlds they came from. Hopefully a nice little trip to take.
