Raavi and the Houseplants - "Major Tool"
We’re stoked to premiere “Major Tool,” the brand new single from Boston indie rockers Raavi and the Houseplants. The song is the band’s first release of 2021 and follows the groove-laced “Sticky,” which dropped last fall.
Yes, today is Valentine’s Day, and to commemorate the occasion, the band is sharing a quasi-romantic track that delves into the fragile dynamics of a relatively new-ish relationship. Particularly, the song examines that moment when you’re debating just how vulnerable to get with a significant other that you’re still getting to know. For those who’ve experienced this internal dilemma before, the guitars and the general flow of “Major Tool” may feel quite familiar, as its springy push and pull really captures the anxiety of those deliberations. Different perplexing feelings come from different directions and their math-y twin-guitar interplay, which has a serious midwest emo vibe to it, ebbs and flows, as the rhythm and lead parts communicate with each other, mimicking the experience. Frontperson Raavi Sita’s vocals are supple and potent, so much so at times that it sounds like she’s harmonizing with herself, especially in the penultimate verse when she sings “oh it's going down / am I far from your ground / and oh if it's going down / will you still want me around?”
